With the liberalization of the economic policy and coming into effect of the World Trade Organization in 1994, the Indian refractory industry under the aegis of Indian Refractory Makers Association (IRMA)- a cooperation partner of refractories WORLDFORUM- felt the need for closer interaction with the global refractories community which led to organizing the India International Refractories Congress (or IREFCON) in 1994.
