內容簡介Although the outdoor temperature was colder than normal, and there were lingering piles of snow from a late season snowstorm (12" [30,5 cm]), there was record attendance at the 49th St. Louis Symposium on Refractories, 27-28 March 2013, with 200 attendees. The night before the meeting, a group of 100 attendees went to an ice hockey game. The meeting program, with the theme - "Refractory Challenges in the Chemical and Petrochemical Industries", was organized by Co-Chairs J. Deckerand R. Volk, and included 16 papers. There was an exposition and social hour, hosted by 26 companies, after the first day program. The 2013 Planje - St. Louis Refractories Award was presented to J. P. Willi, Sunset Refractory Services, shown in Fig. 1, with 13 past winners. Willi has worked in the refractories industry for 47 years (since 1966), with Harbison-Walker, A. P. Green, General, and Riverside. He is a Fellow of ACerS, and has received awards from ASTM for his active role in the development of standard tests for refractories.
