內容簡介A set of torsion tests was adopted for the evaluation of brick flexibility (stress relaxation capacity), which is deemed important in order to suppress mechanical spalling damage in the brick lining of a cement kiln. It combines a "repeating torsion test," "measurement of the rate of torsional rigidity," and a "torsional stress relaxation test," allowing us to make a comprehensive evaluation, both qualitative and quantitative, of the mechanical behaviors of a brick in response to certain displacement and load. Magnesia-spinel bricks exhibited their characteristic mechanical behaviors especially in an intermediate temperature range, where they showed higher flexibility than a magnesia chrome brick, which is used in the burning zone of a cement kiln. Furthermore, the flexibility of the magnesia- spinel bricks greatly varied with the amounts of flux components and other factors. Selection of brick materials in actual applications should take into account both operational factors such as thermal load and mechanical factors such as actual shell ovality.
