Pitch has been widely used as a binder in refractories, of both shaped and unshaped types. In this work, the effects of the pitch/aggregate ratio, and the kind of pitch, on the adhesive characteristics of hot casting materials, were studied.There was an optimum pitch content (about 20 mass percent) for the hot shearing adhesive strength, so it was determined that the adherence of pitch will vary depending on the pitch content. In addition, it was determined that the adherence was different depending on the kind of pitch.
