內(nèi)容簡介When MgO-C refractory is exposed to high temperatures, the MgO and C contained in it react with each other to produce gaseous species. These species in turn are oxidized to form MgO, which precipitates near the hot face in a layer form and protects MgO-C refractory from oxidation. Although this is a known fact, there have been few reports on the formation mechanism of this dense MgO layer, because MgO-C refractory at high temperatures undergoes complex changes such as the reaction between MgO and C, decomposition of MgO aggregate particles, and loss of carbon by oxidation. Through the observation of microstractural changes, we studied high temperature reactions in MgO-C refractories when they were heat-treated at selected temperatures and under a constant oxygen pressure (P_(O2))- The results are reported here.
