內(nèi)容簡(jiǎn)介Al_4C_3 powder was synthesized by heating a powder mixture consisting of A1:C = 4:3 (molar ratio) heated in Ar at 1400 deg C for 2 h. When an equimolar powder mixture compact consisting of AI4C3 and SiC was heated at 1700 deg C for 2 h in vacuum, a monophase of Al_4SiC_4 was formed. A fine powder of Al_4SiC_4 after milling with alumina balls for 24 h was sintered using the PECS (Pulse Electric Current Sintering) technique. Upon heating at above 1750 deg C, the relative density of the sintered samples surpassed 98%. In the case of heating at 1750 deg C for 5 min and applying a pressure of 60 MPa, the fracture strength, Vickers hardness, and fracture toughness of the sample were 470 MPa, 16 GPa, and 2.8 MPa X m~(-2), respectively. In contrast, upon heating at 1850 deg C, the main crystal phase of the sample changed to Al_4Si_2C_5. The fracture strength, Vickers hardness, and fracture toughness of the dense Al_4Si_2C_5 body were 430 MPa, 14 GPa, and 2.9 MPa X m~(1/2), respectively. Thus, the mechanical properties were comparable to those of the dense Al_4SiC_4 body.'
