內容簡介Alumina is an important and useful industrial material with the chemical formula Al_2O_3. It is manufactured through processes of dehydrating and calcining aluminum hydroxides such as trihydrate Gibbsite (Al_2O_3.3H_2O) or monohydrate Boehmite (Al_2O_3.H_2O). According to various manufacturing conditions such as temperature and pressure, alumina exists in several kinds of isomers with different crystal structures e.g. α, γ, δ,η, κ and so on. On heating it passes through intermediate phase transition structures but with heating at more than about 1100°C everything finally settles into stable a-alumina. Because a-alumina has a high melting point, stability to chemical changes, excellent electrical insulation, and high hardness, it is in wide and common use as the raw material for heat resistant applications such as refractories and insulators, advanced ceramics such as IC substrates and ceramic tools and polishing and packing materials to impart high thermal conductivity to various resins. Recently demand is rapidly increasing for use as a key raw material in glass substrates for liquid crystal panels.
